Program Coordinator 

Position Overview

The Program Coordinator reports to and works with the Program Manager to develop, oversee and implement a comprehensive annual Great Escapes strategy that compliments Starlight’s other programming.  Great Escapes are outings that offer families a chance to spend recreational time together at sporting events, dances, movie screenings, Starlight parties and other fun activities designed to foster a support community for the children and their families.

Primary Responsibilities 

  • Assume overall responsibility for Great Escapes—plan, secure venue and other program supplies, coordinate invitations and confirmations with families, supervise the event, and train and coordinate volunteers
  • Set and achieve annual program goals, quantitative and qualitative
  • Manage the Great Escape budget, in total as well as by event
  • Maintain and expand programming through needs-based assessments with families
  • Foster and maintain on-going relationships with families
  • Maintain membership database and new-member enrollment program
  • Develop new and maintain relationships with vendors
  • Secure sponsorship and manage in-kind donations related to Great Escape events
  • Facilitate board member sponsored “signature” events
  • Assist development staff in matching donors with appropriate opportunities
  • Promote Great Escape sponsorship opportunities at Gala
  • Develop new resources through professional associations and networking opportunities
  • Participate in the production of newsletters; provide ideas and program content for website
  • Represent the chapter on Great Escapes monthly conference calls
  • Develop relationships and maintain communications with other chapters and headquarters
  • Compile and submit data for monthly and annual reporting
  • Assist individuals in the office and share general office duties, as needed


Qualifications
 

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • At least 2 years experience within the nonprofit community, in child life or social work arenas, or event planning
  • Commitment to Starlight's mission and understands the needs of seriously ill children
  • Self-starter and fast learner who takes initiative and focuses on quality outcomes
  • Exceptional organizational skills with the ability to multi-task and prioritize accordingly
  • Thrives working in a small office environment
  • Experience working with and delegating tasks to interns and volunteers
  • Familiarity with working in a database environment (Donor Perfect, VolunteerWorks or similar)
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
  • Proficient in general Internet usage, including online research
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Expect to spend 20% - 25% of time working weekends and evenings due to nature of events
  • Available for limited travel between the four-state region
  • Valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle

Development Manager

Overview

The Development Manager will manage multiple donor strategies that expand the financial base of support for Starlight Children’s Foundation Midwest through individual, corporate and foundation giving.  The Development Manager will personally cultivate relationships in the community that yield sustained revenue and strategic opportunities for Starlight.  The Development Manager will have the opportunity to make a significant impact, create change and shape the future development direction.

Responsibilities 

  • With the Executive Director, develop and implement a long range fundraising program that supports Starlight’s strategic initiatives
  • Strengthen Individual Giving program: cultivate existing relationships, identify and solicit new prospects and steward individual donors for recurring, annual giving, major gifts, planned gifts or other personal giving
  • Increase Corporate Giving: cultivate existing relationships, identify and solicit prospects, create innovative sponsorship opportunities and develop strategies to engage corporate partners
  • Manage Grant Calendar for corporate, family and community foundations: steward existing donors, research opportunities, write compelling grant proposals to pursue best-suited, priority opportunities and submit timely updates and end-of-year reports
  • With the Marketing/Communication committee, lead efforts to increase brand awareness, ensure consistency of messaging, and design and implement donor recognition programs that enhance visibility
  • With the Executive Director, support Board Members’ development efforts: maximize board contacts and referrals, educate and engage members in fundraising for the program campaign, develop appropriate marketing materials to support efforts
  • With the Development Manager–Special Events, ensure that special and turnkey events and direct and email campaigns effectively leverage donor relations and support development strategies  

Qualifications 

  • Demonstrated success in establishing, sustaining and growing relationships that result in profitable partnerships
  • Commitment to the mission and values of Starlight
  • Understanding of Chicago donor base and fundraising resources
  • Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of three years fundraising experience with nonprofit organizations or related business experience
  • Outstanding research and organizational skills, proven ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously
  • Self-motivated, results-oriented, strategic thinker willing to execute strategies
  • Exceptional writing, public speaking and interpersonal skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and database environment (Donor Perfect, VolunteerWorks or similar)
  • Desire to work in a small office environment and contribute to team effort
  • Valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle

Administrative Assistant 

Position Overview

This part-time position provides administrative support to all four staff members of Starlight’s office.  Assignments cover program service, fundraising and administrative departments. 

Responsibilities 

  • Maintain donor and volunteer databases – record contributions and generate Thank You letters
  • Manage inventory and in-kind records – secure appropriate paperwork and update spreadsheets
  • Assist with mailings and track responses for auction solicitations, fundraising appeals, event mailings, surveys, etc. 
  • Assist with follow-up phone calls to families, donors and hospitals
  • Provide other administrative support as needed to all departments
  • Answer phones and door
  • Receive and distribute mail, UPS, FedEx, and other deliveries


Qualifications 

  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office environment – skilled in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
  • Proficient in data entry with working knowledge of database programs - Donor Perfect, VolunteerWorks preferred
  • Proficient in general Internet usage, including online research and e-mail skills
  • Proven ability to multi-task and meet deadlines
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Commitment to our mission and an understanding of the needs of the children and families we serve


Salary and Benefits 

This part-time position, approximately 20 hours per week offers a competitive salary, based on experience, but is not eligible for a comprehensive benefits package.
