Genesis' Story
Genesis’ life could be described by some as “out of the ordinary” since birth. She has undergone a major heart surgery and has been through three corneal transplants, two of which had failed until the most recent in August of 2008. She was diagnosed at birth with Turners-Syndrome. Since then, she has constantly been in and out of the hospital. Most of the time, it takes its toll on her, having to see doctors constantly and taking four treatments daily for her many health conditions.
Her family has been her strength and courage along with the help of many friends from Starlight. The events that Starlight provides have been tremendous. Genesis has been able to shed her light on kids with similar conditions. She has had time to share her experiences and give encouragement to other seriously ill children.
Genesis is a unique and extraordinary 14 year old girl. She is a brilliant straight A student in the 8th grade and will be graduating this year. In the fall she will be attending John F. Kennedy High School. With the help of Starlight, she is able to shine without any fear of who she is and greatly appreciates her surroundings.
"We give thanks to Starlight for being there for Genesis and for having such a program," says father Robert. "For me, being a single parent, I greatly appreciate, from the depths of my heart, the many social events that Starlight has provided which have helped to keep her mind off of her many medical issues."
Thank you from Starlight Child Brandon!
