Gianna and her mother share their story

Linda found out that her child was diagnosed en utero when she was about 4 months along...

"The AFP bloodtest was slighty elevated so they called me in for an ultrasound. I remember the nurse leaving the room in a hurry and I knew something was wrong. I remember feeling so honored that Our Lord would bless me with one of His special babies. In spite of everything I have done to offend Him throughout my life, He trusted me with one of His special ones. Medical terms came later, emotions and worry came later, but that was an awesome moment that I'll never forget."

According to Gianna, "having spina bifida has its ups and downs but I like it because I get to do great stuff like meet the Jonas Borthers and go to the stuff you invite me to. I also have great doctors and People say I inspire them, plus we get to park closer to buildings!" Her mother says, "We have had to get used to a new 'normal'...but we have."  For Gianna the best part about being a part of Starlight is, "all the things they do are great. I liked the slumber party they invited me to. I liked it because the movie, music and the games were all fun and all of the people were nice." Her favorite activities at Starlight are, "the Sox games and the zoo. I liked Cavalia because all of the horses were beautiful and it was amazing to watch them perform."

In Gianna's words, "The Starlight Foundation makes me feel happy and makes me want to do more stuff. It makes me feel good about myself. Thank you, Starlight, for all of the things you have done for me."

"In my opinion, Starlight is how I know my family is loved, Starlight has shown us that someone cares about the things we are going through. When I meet the other parents from the Starlight family and see how they all interacted with one another and the staff members, I then realized, we were a part of something special. I finally found a group of people who can understand what I'm going through, who are an extended family."
