Program Services Volunteer Opportunities
Great Escapes™ Planning Committee
This committee plays an integral role in helping the Program Services Department meet the growing demands of Starlight's Great Escapes™ family activities program. Great Escapes currently reache approximately 450+ families through more than 80 events annually which include organized activities and ticketed events. 350+ families are living in the Greater Chicago area and the rest throughout Illinois, Indiana, Michigan and Wisconsin.
Responsibilities
Schedule and confirm Great Escapes calendar and help coordinate and staff events, infusing variety, creativity and efficiency for reproducing such events in the Greater Chicago-land area and other cities in the Midwest
Develop ideas for events for the upcoming Great Escapes calendar
Assist in the coordination and staffing for Great Escapes events, including visiting potential venues and addressing logistical matters such as wheelchair accessibility and other special accommodations
Working with Starlight staff to send invitations and confirm all participants
Managing day-of logistics and execution, including set-up, registration, trouble-shooting, etc.
Time commitment 12 months, starting in January and ending in December. Committee meetings occur in January, March, May, July, September, and November.
Committee members must attend a minimum of three meetings, participate in at least three GE events, and lead in the coordination and staffing of at least one GE event.
Great Escapes Event Volunteers
Volunteers are recruited throughout the year to help at various Great Escape family activities.
Responsibilities
Volunteers help out with various tasks depending on the event. Tasks may include family registration, assisting with activities such as crafts or games, or other assignments as needed.
Time Commitment
Great Escape events are typically 3-4 hours in length. Volunteers must be available for the entire event.
Great Escapes Birthday Card Committee
This committee is responsible for sending birthday cards to our Great Escapes children.
Responsibilities
Committee members will rotate shifts so that once a month, at least one member will come to the Starlight office to address and send birthday cards. Committee members will also assist the Development Department with soliciting birthday card donations and gift cards/coupons of nominal value to send with birthday cards.
Time commitment
One hour per month - as required for soliciting donations. Committee will serve for six months (November - April; or May-October).
