The PacifiCare Foundation is partnering with Starlight Starbright and Dr. Francine Radner Kaufman to develop My Body, My Life, a web site for overweight teens or those at risk for becoming overweight.
The rate of overweight among children and teens has reached epidemic proportions in the United States, disproportionately affecting ethnic and racial minorities. Overweight children and teens are likely to become overweight adults and are at higher risk for developing cardiovascular disease, diabetes, and other chronic disease as young adults. This hinders their prospects for a productive and successful life, and many times results in early death.
Starlight Starbright, Dr. Kaufman and the PacifiCare Foundation are developing "My Body, My Life" to provide an age appropriate and teen-friendly way to motivate and encourage teens to take charge of their life, incrementally adopt improved nutrition and physical activity behaviors, and reduce their risk of chronic disease.
