ESA Foundation

ESA Foundation funded development of Coping with Chemo webisodes, which are animated stories that help teens cope with having cancer and undergoing treatment.

Being a teen is hard enough without being diagnosed with cancer. Teens diagnosed with cancer typically experience fear, grief and anger. Many times they rebel by skipping or refusing treatment. Many teens have a hard time asking questions about their disease and communicating with adults due to their developmental stage, leaving them feeling isolated and alone in their illness. Health care professionals point to the need to provide teens with education about their disease and coping tools in a safe and non-threatening way.

Coping with Chemo provides teens with information about cancer and what to expect from treatment in order to encourage teens to comply with their treatment regimen, communicate more openly with the health care team, and feel less isolated and fearful about their illness and treatment. Starlight Starbright was honored to partner with the ESA Foundation to develop this important online tool.
